“Girl who stowed away” Port Lincoln Times, 15th June 1928

The Stowaway at the wheel of the Herzogin – Probably Jeanne Day, a 22 year old music teacher from Port Lincoln who made her way onboard, dressed in boy’s clothes. She hid until the ship was several days out to sea, before revealing herself to the officers and crew. The National Library of Australia records their search for the biography “Log of a Happy Girl” here.
